CGCC STUDENTS BUSY WITH SUMMER DUTY
SBS KETCHIKAN AND JUNEAU WILL BE TAKING THE RAPID RESPONSE BOAT INTO NEW WATERS IN ALASKA TO FLY THE COLORS AND SURVEY THE SEAWAYS. THESE 5 TO 10 DAY EXCERSIONS INTO THE INTERIOR WILL GIVE DISTRICT 17 COMMAND A BETTER VIEW OF ACTIVITIES TAKING PLACE IN SURROUNDING WATERWAYS. VINCENNES UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN ACTION.

OCEANOGRAPHY ON THE SKYLINE
SBS JUNEAU ALASKA BEGINS THE STUDY OF OCEANOGRAPHY 16 JUNE. ALL 22 STUDENTS ARE LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS NEW COURSE. ALONGSIDE THE STUDY OF THE OCEAN WILL BE A SECOND COURSE IN ORAL INTERPRETATION OF SEA LITERATURE. STUDENTS WILL BE SELECTING POEMS AND LITERARY EXTRACTS OF SEA-RELATED SUBJECTS AND RELATING THEM TO THEIR STUDY OF OCEANOGRAPHY.

DC1 JOHN BAXSTROM AND WIFE SUSIE STAND WITH DIPLOMA IN HAND AFTER TILLAMOOK BAY GRADUATION EXERCISES. THEY ARE READY TO PACK UP THEIR TWO SONS AND MOVE ON TO THEIR NEW ASSIGNMENT AT CORDOVA ALASKA. JOHN WILL BE IN CHARGE OF HOUSING FOR THE BOUY TENDER SYCAMORE AND ITS ATTACHED CREW MEMBERS.

ADRIAN WAYNE LONGACRE JOINS ALASKA STAFF
ADRIAN WAYNE LONGACRE JOINS OUR JUNEAU INSTRUCTIONAL STAFF IN JUNE. A GRADUATE OF THE COAST GUARD ACADEMY IN 1966, LONGACRE WILL TEACH A NEW CLASS IN OCEANOGRAPHY CO-TAUGHT WITH LITERATURE OF THE SEA.

HISTORY CLASSES
MIKE JOHNSON IS TEACHING AMERICAN HISTORY AND SPECIAL PROJECTS IN AMERICAN HISTORY AT MLS DEPOE BAY/YAQUINA BAY. HE IS ON THE LAST LEG OF HIS INSTRUCTIONAL FORMAT AND ALL ATTENDING STUDENTS SEEM TO BE ENJOYING HIS WORK.
